I was invited to a ...Ah, the bathroom complication…
I was invited to a 4th of July dinner. The friends hosting it were having their 1st post-pandemic-lockdown gathering (15 already vaccinated people on a patio). That week was one of the toughest I’ve ever had: walking was extremely difficult (too difficult to attempt), I was exhausted and overwhelmed by the physical challenges, & I was worried about the heat… So I called my friend to say I wasn’t up to it. But then another friend (a co-host) called and convinced me that if I came with my wheelchair, he’d help me. There were raised thresholds at the house - one going into the entrance, another going down again out to the patio. Okay, with his help, that could be achieved. But then I thought about the bathroom! I made a plan - I’d wear my newfangled UnderCool cooling vest so that I wouldn’t feel overheated. I’d start journeys to the bathroom BEFORE I had to go (I knew the house; I knew the distance I’d have to traverse; I also knew I’d have to get help summiting that threshold every time I went inside. There would be no surreptitious way to leave the patio). Anyway, I went to the dinner party; I had a great time; it was slightly surreal (friends were actually waiting on me… “would you like something to drink?” “We’ll bring you your food…” And, yeah, having to get help every time I went into the house…)
But, yes, I was monitoring how much water I drank and hesitating at times just as you did with that beer. And those cooling packs were set right up against my kidneys; I was guessing that might make quick bathroom visits slightly more necessaryKayKhanArthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00486478653970671310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2838498765761167784.post-63453404683641459722021-01-26T16:44:55.934-07:002021-01-26T16:44:55.934-07:00Awesome!

I'm always amazed how much people don't read. Being a small person who travels by forearm crutches, I'm usually treated pretty nicely by strangers unless I'm at one of our theater venues in St. L. Did you notice that many Starbucks and Paneras don't have button-controlled doors? I'm on a mission to speak to every manager. Maybe they just don't want our money or is it a midwestern problem?
Diane (aka Gimp Girl)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2838498765761167784.post-29569530590021452812019-10-28T15:42:03.380-06:002019-10-28T15:42:03.380-06:00MOS, thanks sir! And Roland, I brought my CC but didn't deploy it because I *thought* we had our own private bathroom. Like you, I forgot to account for illiteracy. I resorted to a condom catheter to evade dire straits. I'd love to see Sting in concert. I have had MS since 1999, at age 22. I have failed numerous DMTs, and feel I actually do worse on them. I plan to join a life study at NIH, currently scheduled for the end of January. Please contact me thru email, and hopefully we can arrange to speak on the phone. We know how to play the "gimp card" (our name for it, not to offend anyone) when we need to and it usually was for concerts. But, of course, there are always the able bodied numb nuts that take advantage of it also. I hope your offender wet his pants!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2838498765761167784.post-14949729908691074592019-10-23T08:53:08.333-06:002019-10-23T08:53:08.333-06:00Susan!
